Dani Matos announced as VIPER’s new bassist

DanielWhen Pit Passarell felt unwell and was hospitalized after a performance in São Paulo on August 31, 2024, VIPER had three shows scheduled in the following months.

The first of them would be at Sesc Catanduva, on September 12. To fulfill the commitment, we invited a musician who has been part of the VIPER family for decades: Dani Matos, our childhood friend and brother of Andre, VIPER’s first vocalist. Although excellent, it was a sensitive and difficult show for all of us. Playing VIPER’s repertoire without Pit is not only a musical issue, but mainly a personal one. Like everything that involves the band, by the way.

Next, on September 28, we were scheduled to perform a show in Curitiba. Pit’s health condition worsened, causing us to postpone the show – he passed away the day before, on September 27. The third scheduled date was October 13, at the Grita Festival in Colombia. It was a very important show that would mark VIPER’s return to international stages – and the first after Pit’s death.

In his honor, we all wore the famous Pit/Calvin t-shirts – he loved and identified with the character –, we handed out picks and listened to the wonderful Colombian people singing “Olê, olê, olê, olé… Pit! Pit! It was unforgettable for countless reasons. After the show, we got together and, in a very emotional atmosphere, officially invited Dani Matos to join VIPER. He accepted. We are proud and honored to announce that Dani Matos is VIPER’s new bassist.

Welcome, Dani!
